PlayStation State of Play scheduled for Tuesday, June 2nd

The summer is starting soon, and gaming's busiest announcement season is soon tome come with it.  With that being said, Sony wasn't hesitant on throwing their hat in the ring and kicking off the announcement season by announcing an upcoming PlayStation State of Play showcase, broadcasting on Tuesday, June 2nd.

What to Expect

Sony has confirmed a runtime of over 60 minutes, with a key part of the presentation being confirmed to focus on an in-depth gameplay look at Marvel's Wolverine from Insomniac, the next Marvel action game following Spider-Man 2which releases on September 15th, 2026 exclusively for PS5.

Marvel's Wolverine is confirmed to be a key part of the showcase.

While Wolverine has been the only thing confirmed so far, it's fair to assume we'll also get updated looks on other upcoming first-party releases from Sony, such as Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and the next team reveal for Arc System Works' Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, releasing August 6th, 2026 for PS5 & PC, as the last team trailer for the game hinted at Doctor Doom's team being revealed next.

As for third-party showings at the upcoming showcase, rumors have been pretty silent.  While hype and developer interviews have been frequent for the upcoming official reveal of the Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 from Square Enix, it's more likely we'll see an official reveal and trailer for Part 3 at Geoff Keighley's Summer Games Fest, which kicks of with their big showcase the same week on Friday, June 5th.  Other rumors that have been circulating include potential news from Capcom
regarding the Resident Evil franchise, with rumors including a potential Resident Evil: Requiem Story DLC, or a Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake.

Where to Watch

The PlayStation State of Play scheduled for Tuesday, June 2nd will be live at 2 PM PST / 4 PM CST / 5 PM EST / 11 PM CEST on the official PlayStation YouTube (linked above) and the official PlayStation Twitch account.

However, for the first time, Sony will  be airing this State of Play in five Alamo Drafthouse theater locations across major US cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, and more.

With Sony announcing this showcase weeks in advance as opposed to their usual week-off announcement, and with it being confirmed to have a runtime of over 60 minutes and being played in Alamo Drafthouse locations, it's more than fair to assume that the first presentation of the Summer might be one of, if not the biggest State of Play yet.

What do you expect Sony to show in the season's first showcase?  Let us know in the comments below.
